What is Beginner's Double Bass?

‘Beginner’s Double Bass’ is a step-by-step video course presented by Geoff Chalmers which comprises over five hours of HD video across 43 lessons. It is a comprehensive method that teaches everything you need to know to get started with the double bass. Reading music is not a requirement as all the exercises are demonstrated in the video lessons, but if you prefer to read them as well I have provided written exercises in standard notation.

The video course is available to view online, exclusively at Discover Double Bass.

How Will I Know What to Work on?

The forty three video lessons are presented in a step-by-step order giving you a clear and logical route though the course material. Starting with the very basics it covers everything you need to get started with the upright bass.

What Will I Learn?

The course is comprised of eight chapters covering a wide range of essential topics. From advice on choosing your first instrument to a detailed look at the fundamentals of technique, everything you need is all in one place.

No more searching the net for information, it’s all in one place and presented in a logical, step by step fashion.

Who's it For?

If you are new to the double bass and want a comprehensive, step-by-step method, then this is the course for you. However this course is also suitable for more experienced bassists wanting to review the basics and make sure they haven’t missed any important information along the way. The techniques described in this method can be applied in many styles of music.

What if I Have Questions?

Below each video there's a comments section where you can ask questions about the lessons and get feedback from Geoff.

I’ve also created the ‘Discover Double Bass Study Group’ so you can get help from the Discover Double Bass community. The Study Group is a ‘closed’ Facebook group in which only bassists who have bought a course can ask questions or view the discussion. It’s a private community of like minded double bassists who are looking to develop their playing. If you need help along the way, we will be there to get you back on track!
